Sample compensation report: an illustrative findings page
By NovaPath · Published
A strong findings page lets a reviewer see what was compared, why it was selected, and what the result does—and does not—support.
Illustrative example only. All roles, figures, and benchmark values below are invented to demonstrate a report format. They are not market data, a client result, or a pay recommendation.
Example role comparison
- Role
- Program coordinator, individual contributor
- Comparison basis
- Base pay only; 40 paid hours a week for 52 weeks
- Illustrative organization pay
- $52,000 annually, equivalent to $25 per scheduled paid hour
- Illustrative comparison reference
- $54,080 annually, equivalent to $26 per scheduled paid hour
- Difference
- Organization pay is $2,080 lower annually, or about 3.85% below the illustrative reference.
Calculation: ($52,000 − $54,080) ÷ $54,080 × 100 = −3.85%. The denominator is the reference figure. The percentage increase from current pay to that reference is a different calculation: $2,080 ÷ $52,000 = 4%.
What the narrative should explain
Match rationale: describe the duties, required qualifications, and scope of responsibility used to select the comparison. If the comparison has supervisory duties but the internal role does not, flag that difference.
Evidence: a real report would identify the source, date, geography, and pay definition. This example has no external benchmark source because the figures are fictional.
Limitations: this example excludes benefits, overtime, bonuses, vacancies, and differences in experience. It cannot establish a market position or justify an employee pay change.
Questions for a leadership review
- Is the job description current, and is the comparison defensible?
- Are the work schedule and included pay elements aligned?
- Does other evidence support the same interpretation?
- How would a proposed adjustment affect related positions and the budget?
- What additional information is needed before a decision?
Suggested report structure
- Executive summary and decisions under consideration.
- Scope, role definitions, and comparison approach.
- Source register and normalization assumptions.
- Position-level findings and benefits analysis when scoped.
- Limitations, options, and recommendations.
- Appendix of supporting tables and review notes.
NovaPath confirms the report format and supporting analysis during scoping. This sample demonstrates an explanation style, not a fixed deliverable specification.
